We Care Team - Overview

The We Care Team is a large and diverse group of caring partners, connected by a desire to care for others and help make the community a better place for everyone. We are young and old, rich and poor, of different ethnic groups and from different economic and social backgrounds. The We Care Team works with individuals, businesses, churches, civic groups, governments and others to build a safer, stronger, healthier city.

A word from Tom Watts, director of the We Care Team

In most cities today, we don't always see our community as it really is. We get sidetracked with the "sensational", that which is not necessarily positive, but which makes the nightly news and morning headlines. We turn on our televisions and are bombarded with the dysfunctional acts of a few members of our society who want to hurt one another instead of helping one another.

But in reality, most communities are caring communities, where 99 percent of us go about our daily lives doing caring things for others. Of course our caring acts don't normally generate publicity as does the behavior of uncaring persons, but our caring acts are what make us a good community.

If the caring majority were visible to one another, then we would truly know just how wonderful a community we have. We have a common bond, the capacity and the willingness to care for others, and when we become connected to one another, we change the perception of our community from an ordinary community to an extraordinary community — to "America's Caring Community."

So how do we become visible and connected to one another? That is what the We Care Team is all about. We're young and old, rich and poor, of different racial backgrounds, and from different economic and social backgrounds; but the vast majority of us share the common bond of the capacity and willingness to care for each other. By filling out an "I Care" card and telling one thing we do for another person, we become part of the We Care Team, joining other caring persons within our community in what is already the "biggest gang in town."
